Human characteristics

In general, the following are true of adult humans.

• People don't like to be told what to do.
• People don't like to be assessed.
• People don't like to be belittled.
  • "You're just whining."
• People don't like unsolicited advice.
  • Unsolicited advice is the intersection of assessment and telling people what to do.
• People don't respond well to aggression.

• People don't like being condescended to.
• People don't like to be told you're smarter than they are.
• People don't like to be held responsible for your feelings.
• People don't like to be proved wrong.

Foolishness

• It is foolish to expect other humans to think like you.
• It is foolish to expect humans to act as machines.
• It is foolish to treat humans as if they were machines.
• It is foolish to think that someone will come around to your way of thinking by beating them down.
• It is foolish to focus on a person when you want a behavior to change.
• It is foolish to assume that another person is the cause of your problems.
• It is foolish to assume that because you said something that the person hearing it heard the same thing.
  • It is foolish to be angry when this is not the case.
    • It is foolish to assume that the listener was at fault.
• It is foolish to think you are perfect.
  • It is foolish to think you have nothing to improve.

Red flags

• Intentionally insulting someone is a character flaw on your part.
